Albertsons Companies Accelerates $13 Million in Holiday Gift Cards to Community Foodbanks

Since 2020, the company has donated $76+ million in holiday gift cards

Albertsons Companies, in partnership with the Albertsons Companies Foundation and its charitable program Nourishing Neighbors, are longstanding community partners in the fight against hunger. We are accelerating the distribution of $13 million in annual holiday gift cards to community foodbanks at a time when millions of Americans face increasing challenges accessing nutritious food.

 

“This is our sixth year to give holiday gift cards to community foodbanks, and we are pleased to be able to distribute them early during a time when it’s needed most,” said Christy Duncan Anderson, President and Executive Director of the Albertsons Companies Foundation. “Food insecurity touches over 18 million* households across the country, and by donating gift cards we are giving those in need the dignity to choose what they want to eat during the holidays, when they want to eat it.” 

 

Since 2020, we have: 

  • Distributed $76+ million via 1.7 million in holiday gift cards 
  • Provided 30.4 million meals** 
  • Supported 4.6 M individuals

This action is the latest in a series of impactful initiatives aimed at ending the cycle of hunger in local communities from the Albertsons Companies Foundation. And thanks to the generous donations of our customers during September’s Hunger Action Month, more than $4.9 million was raised to support hunger relief efforts in local communities. Every dollar contributed stayed within the local community, and more than 100 local food banks, food pantries and other community organizations will receive Nourishing Neighbors grants funded by customer donations to support neighbors in need. 

 

Nourishing Neighbors is committed to helping ensure at-risk children, adults, seniors and families have access to the food they need to thrive. Since 2014, the program has delivered more than 1.3 billion meals and contributed over $330 million to fight hunger across the country.

    My name is Valerie Vazquez, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new Director of Haven of Hope for Kids. I am reaching out for the first time to explore a potential partnership in support of the families we serve.

    Haven of Hope for Kids is a nonprofit organization based out of Hope, NJ, dedicated to providing families facing serious challenges—such as illness, loss, or hardship—with a peaceful, cost-free retreat. Families stay at our cottage for five days, where they can rest, reconnect, and create lasting memories together in a supportive and caring environment. We strive to ease their burdens by providing all essential needs during their stay.

    We often bring our families to shop at the Acme in Blairstown, NJ, as part of their experience, helping them feel a sense of normalcy and independence during their stay.

    As we begin planning for this summer, we are excited to welcome 10 families for week-long stays, along with an additional 3 families who will join us for day trips. While we provide lodging, meals, and activities, we are reaching out to ask if your organization would consider donating gift cards to support these families. Being able to offer gift cards would be a true blessing, helping to offset food costs and providing families with an extra sense of comfort and dignity during their time with us.

    We would be grateful for any level of support you are able to provide. Your generosity would have a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of the families we serve.
