Idaho: Local Impact
Hunger Statistics in Idaho:

According to this latest data, 12.7% of Idahoans—about one in eight people—experienced food insecurity, while 16.2% of children lacked reliable access to enough food. (Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap 2025, based on 2023 estimates.)
That child food insecurity rate represents an estimated 72,296 Idaho kids (16.2% of the 2023 child population)—enough to fill the Boise State Albertsons Stadium (approx. 36,000 seats) two times.
About 250,260 people across Idaho face hunger. This challenge exists in every county, affecting urban, suburban, and rural communities alike.
Partner Stories
The Idaho Foodbank Warehouse
With support from the Albertsons Companies Foundation, the Idaho Foodbank’s Backpack and School Pantry programs are helping ensure students have consistent access to nutritious food beyond the school day. Each week, backpacks filled with food provide reassurance to children who might otherwise face empty cupboards over the weekend—easing stress for families and allowing students to return to school nourished and ready to learn. For many low‑income and stay‑home‑alone students, this support has become a critical source of stability during the school year.
The impact is visible in students’ daily lives. Counselors and families report improved attendance, greater focus in class, and reduced anxiety about food. One student who previously spent school days traveling between food distribution sites no longer needed to do so once enrolled, thanks to the consistency the program provides. Another child became more alert and engaged in school once weekend hunger was no longer a concern. Through this partnership, our funding helps do more than provide food—it helps create the conditions for students to feel secure, supported, and able to thrive.
