Hunger Statistics in Oregon:
Hunger affects communities across Oregon, touching people of all ages, backgrounds, and zip codes.
According to this latest data, 14.2% of Oregonians—about one in seven people—experienced food insecurity, while 17.5% of children lacked reliable access to enough food. (Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap 2025, based on 2023 estimates.)
That child food insecurity rate represents an estimated 147,201 Oregon kids (17.5% of the 2023 child population)—enough to fill Autzen Stadium in Eugene (54,000 seats) nearly three times.
About 599,460 people across Oregon face hunger. This challenge exists in every county, affecting urban, suburban, and rural communities alike.
Many households experiencing food insecurity earn too much to qualify for federal nutrition programs and instead rely on Oregon food banks and their network of local partner agencies to meet basic food needs.
Sunshine Division
Through our grant, we helped expand Sunshine Division’s ability to provide reliable, dignified food access to neighbors across Portland—meeting people where and when they need it most. With food assistance available six days a week at its N. Thompson location, five days a week at its SE Stark site, and 24/7 emergency food boxes distributed through partnerships with local police precincts, families and individuals can access help even during moments of crisis.
Our funding also supports Sunshine Division’s home delivery program, launched in response to the COVID‑19 crisis and now serving nearly 400 households each week. Since its start, more than 85,000 households have received emergency food boxes delivered directly to their doors—ensuring seniors, people with disabilities, and others facing barriers to access are not left behind. This investment helps provide consistent nourishment, stability, and peace of mind for neighbors working to get through difficult times.
